MA3-021A detects calcitonin (CT) from salmon tissues. This antibody cross reacts with glycine-extended salmon calcitonin, but is unreactive with salmon calcitonin peptides 23-30 and 26-32. It shows no cross reactivity with human calcitonin.
MA3-021A has been successfully used in ELISA procedures. By ELISA this antibody is useful in solid-phase or competitive solution based procedures with a sensitivity of approximately 50 ng/mL.
The MA3-021A antigen is salmon calcitonin. This antibody was raised against salmon calcitonin which, as in the naturally occurring peptide, contains a C-terminal prolinamide. The epitope recognized likely lies in the N-terminal portion of the molecule.
Reconstitute with PBS.
Calcitonin is a 32 amino acid peptide which can be demonstrated in C cells of the normal and hyperplastic thyroid. Staining for calcitonin may be used for the identification of a spectrum of C cell proliferative abnormalities ranging from C cell hyperplasia to invasive tumors. Staining for calcitonin in medullary carcinoma of the thyroid produces a fine granular pattern in the cytoplasm. Amyloid deposits within the tumor may also exhibit varying degrees of calcitonin activity.
