Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 200 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Chlamydomonas reinhardtii
Cyt c6 encodes cytochrome c6, a small soluble c-type heme protein that is localized to the thylakoid lumen in oxygenic photosynthetic organisms, where it functions as a mobile electron carrier between the cytochrome b6f complex and photosystem I. The mature protein binds a covalently attached heme c via the conserved Cys-X2-Cys-His motif, with a methionine residue providing the second axial ligand to the heme iron; structural studies show an overall fold dominated by four alpha-helices with a small antiparallel beta-sheet near the heme-ligating methionine, and a conserved hydrophobic/electrostatic docking surface implicated in partner recognition and electron transfer. Functionally, cytochrome c6 supports photosynthetic linear electron transport by shuttling electrons from cytochrome b6f to photosystem I, and in many cyanobacteria its production is favored under copper limitation to provide an iron-based alternative to the copper protein plastocyanin.
