Immunocytochemistry analysis of MAG in HepG2 cell. Samples were treated with 4% PFA, blocked with 10% serum, incubated with polyclonal antibody (Product # PA5-118041) with a dilution of 1:5,000 (4°C overnight), followed by Alexa Fluor 488-conjugated Goat Anti-rabbit IgG secondary antibody (green) and DAPI (blue).

The protein encoded by this gene is a type I membrane protein and member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is thought to be involved in the process of myelination. It is a lectin that binds to sialylated glycoconjugates and mediates certain myelin-neuron cell-cell interactions. Two alternatively spliced transcripts encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
