RASA4B (RAS p21 protein activator 4B) is a gene encoding a protein that functions as a GTPase-activating protein (GAP) for the Ras family of proteins, which are critical regulators of cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival. Located on chromosome 7q22.1, the RASA4B gene product is involved in the inactivation of Ras by stimulating the hydrolysis of Ras-bound GTP to GDP, thus acting as a molecular switch. The structure of RASA4B includes conserved domains for catalytic activity, such as the RasGAP domain, which is essential for its interaction with Ras. Dysregulation or mutations in RASA4B can lead to aberrant Ras signaling, contributing to oncogenesis and other pathologies.
