TRIL (TLR4 interactor with leucine rich repeats) is a single-pass type 1 membrane protein and a novel component of the TLR4 complex. TRIL expression and interaction with TLR4 is enhanced by LPS stimulation. Knockdown of TRIL decreases the effect of LPS in cell lines, human PBMC, and glial cells. Expression of TRIL is seen in a number of tissues, most prominently in the brain but also in the spinal cord, lung, kidney, and ovary.
