Effect of the isolated compounds from S. taxoides on the melanogenic protein expression in B16-F1 cells. Cells were treated with 25 ug/mL ( A ) and 50 ug/mL ( B ) of the isolated compounds. Whole cell lysates were subjected to Western blot analysis using specific antibodies against MITF, tyrosinase, TRP1 and TRP2.

Thought to form a receptor-activated non-selective calcium permeant cation channel. Probably is operated by a phosphatidylinositol second messenger system activated by receptor tyrosine kinases or G-protein coupled receptors. Seems to be also activated by intracellular calcium store depletion. Interacts with ITPR3. Appears to be ubiquitous.
