Tebufenozide is a synthetic insect growth regulator that mimics the action of ecdysteroids, specifically targeting lepidopteran pests by binding to the ecdysone receptor (EcR). This binding disrupts the normal molting process, causing premature and lethal molting in target species. Tebufenozide is highly effective against pests such as fruitworm, fireworms, and gypsy moths, while exhibiting minimal impact on beneficial non-target insects. Structurally, tebufenozide is designed to interact with the receptor sites of the molting hormone 20-hydroxyecdysone, and its metabolism involves cytochrome P450 enzymes, which can be predicted through in silico docking simulations. The compound is applied pre-harvest to protect crops from pest damage.
