Thidiazuron (TDZ) is a synthetic plant growth regulator, classified as a substituted phenyl urea compound, known for its potent effects on organogenic, regeneration, and developmental pathways in plant tissue cultures. It is particularly effective in promoting axillary and adventitious shoot proliferation, somatic embryogenesis, and in vitro flowering. TDZ mimics the action of auxins and cytokinins, although it is chemically distinct from these hormones, and has been extensively studied for its role in callogenesis and biosynthesis of anti-cancerous compounds. The compound's structure allows it to interact with plant cellular mechanisms, facilitating the establishment of in vitro cultures and enhancing the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. Thidiazuron's unique properties have led to its widespread use in plant biotechnology and agricultural applications.
