Antibody detects endogenous levels of total VGLL2.
VGLL2 is the master regulator in the wing development in Drosophila, which acts through a complex by interacting with scalloped, a homolog of vertebrate TEF proteins. Northern and dot blot analyses of human adult tissues detected VGLL2 expression in skeletal muscle. In situ hybridization revealed VGLL2 expression in differentiating somites and branchial arches during mouse embryogenesis. VITO1 is the clone of VGLL2. It contains a scalloped interaction domain (SID). VITO1 is more highly expressed in differentiated myotubes from the mouse C2C12 myogenic cell line than in undifferentiated cells. During differentiation in mouse C2C12 cell line, VGLL2 mRNA levels increase and VGLL2 protein translocates from the cytoplasm to the nucleus. Interference with VITO1 expression by small interfering RNA attenuated differentiation in C2C12 muscle cells. Therefore, this protein is an important component of the myogenic program.
