There has been a lot of interest in the capability of MicroED to analyze and solve crystal structures of compounds using this new and novel approach. However, until now, there has not been a forum dedicated to showcasing the entire process from acquisition through solving the structure from the data.

Hosea Nelson, UCLA

Prof. Nelson earned his BS in Chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 2004 and his PhD from the California Institute of Technology in 2012. After postdoctoral training at the University of California at Berkeley, Hosea joined the UCLA faculty in 2015.

Jose Rodriguez, UCLA

Prof. Rodriguez studies the complex architecture of biological systems—from single biomolecules to cellular assemblies—at high resolution. His work is largely based on diffraction phenomena and combines computational, biochemical, and biophysical experiments. The development of new methods is central to this work, particularly using emerging technologies in cryo-electron microscopy, nano and coherent X-ray diffraction, and macromolecular design. Combined, these tools can reveal undiscovered structures that broadly influence chemistry, biology, and medicine. Jose is a true Bruin; he received both his BS in BioPhysics and his PhD in Molecular Biology at UCLA.

Jan Ringnalda

Jan got his PhD From Liverpool University in 1993, after which he took a postdoctoral researcher position at The Ohio State University. He has been involved with transmission electron microscopy work since 1984, bringing 35+ years of experience to the table. His background includes failure analysis, materials characterization using EDS, EELS, and imaging using TEM and STEM techniques. Jan was part of the product design group that developed the Titan platform. In his present position with Thermo Fisher Scientific, Jan provides technical sales support, presents scientific results at conferences, and still participates in research with students at The Ohio State University to ensure the systems fulfill the requirements of a state-of-the-art research lab.
