EXUM MASSBOX LALI-TOF Mass Spectrometer— elemental mapping made simple

The EXUM Massbox instrument is a new paradigm in material characterization, offering full spectrum, quantitative elemental analysis, high-resolution mapping, and depth profiling without the need for chemical consumables or complex sample preparation. Utilizing laser ablation and laser ionization combined with time-of-flight mass spectrometry, the Massbox mass spectrometer provides precise, three-dimensional elemental maps and quantifies both light and heavy elements, lithium to uranium, directly from solid samples. This benchtop system, with its user-friendly touchscreen interface, simplifies operation and eliminates the need for acid digestion, gas supplies, or extensive sample prep, making it ideal for applications in metals, battery technology, geosciences, and advanced manufacturing. The Massbox mass spectrometer enhances productivity by delivering reliable, reproducible results quickly, empowering users to make impactful decisions with confidence and ease.

MASSBOX mass spectrometer advanced technology

Dual-laser ionization source: The patented LALI technique employs one laser for material ablation and a second for ionizing neutrals, all under vacuum, minimizing spectral interferences, elemental fractionation and matrix effects.

Time-of-flight mass analyzer: Delivers simultaneous full mass range detection with high mass resolution, enabling precise separation of close masses and isotopes with a linear range from sub-ppm to wt%.

Simplified touchscreen interface: The intuitive user interface simplifies setup and calibration, allowing users to load samples, select analysis locations, and just press GO!

MASSBOX mass spectrometer key features

Quantitative analysis

Achieves trace-level detection limits down to hundreds of parts per billion (ppb), providing accurate quantification across a broad dynamic range from sub-ppm to wt%.

Elemental mapping

Produces large-scale maps with micron scale resolution over areas up to 83 mm x 83 mm, revealing spatial heterogeneity.

Depth profiling

Performs depth profiling with nanometer precision, ideal for analyzing coatings, thin films, and layered structures.

Rapid screening

Enables characterization of unknown materials and identification of contaminants in minutes, facilitating real-time decision-making.

Minimal maintenance

Designed for sustained stability over multiple months, reducing the need for frequent maintenance, and lowering operational costs.

MASSBOX mass spectrometer applications

Massbox is highly versatile and suitable for multiple fields, including:

Materials science

Instead of combining results from several instruments and multiple sample runs, gather comprehensive results in a single session for fundamental research, materials development, and failure analysis.

Battery research

Gain insights that drive informed decisions from developing new battery chemistries to analyzing torn-down cells.

Advanced manufacturing

Complete chemical characterization for metal alloy design, reverse engineering, and failure analysis.

Geology, mineral exploration, and mining

Perform stratigraphic fingerprinting and compositional analysis for geological research, mineral exploration, and ore characterization.
