The C1orf146 gene, also known as FAM213A, encodes a protein involved in antioxidative and anti-inflammatory processes within the cell. Located on chromosome 1, FAM213A (family with sequence similarity 213 member A) has been implicated in several critical cellular functions, including the regulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and modulation of inflammatory responses. The protein encoded by C1orf146 is known to interact with peroxiredoxins, which are crucial for protecting cells from oxidative damage. Research has shown that alterations in FAM213A expression can affect cellular susceptibility to oxidative stress and may play a role in the pathogenesis of various diseases, including cancer and inflammatory disorders.
