DRICH1, also known as Aspartate Rich 1 (ASPRICH1), is a gene that encodes a protein characterized by a high content of aspartate residues. While detailed functional studies are limited, aspartate-rich regions in proteins are often involved in calcium binding, signal transduction, and interactions with other biomolecules. These proteins may play roles in various metabolic pathways and cellular processes. Aspartate itself is central to cellular metabolism, contributing to the synthesis of proteins, nucleotides, and facilitating ammonia detoxification. It is predominantly synthesized in the mitochondria via transamination of the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle intermediates, and its abundance is critical for maintaining cellular proliferation and metabolic balance.
