The antiSerum does not cross-react with any other component of Monkey plasma. Inter-species cross-reactivity is a normal feature of antibodies to plasma proteins since they frequently share antigenic determinants. In addition to a clear reactivity with C3c of other old-world Monkeys (Cercopithecus, Cynomolgus and Baboon), this antiSerum shows also a fair amount of cross-reactivity to C3C of other species, including Chimpanzee and man.
Complement component C3 plays a central role in the activation of complement system. Its activation is required for both classical and alternative complement activation pathways. People with C3 deficiency are susceptible to bacterial infection.
