Cyprodinil is an anilinopyrimidine fungicide developed for the control of plant diseases caused by Ascomycetes pathogens, such as Botryotinia fuckeliana (gray mold). It functions primarily as a methionine biosynthesis inhibitor, disrupting the enzyme-secretion system of pathogenic fungi, which is crucial for plant cell-wall degradation. Cyprodinil is applied globally to protect a wide range of crops, including cereals, fruits, and vegetables. Structurally, it is characterized by its pyrimidine ring, which is integral to its fungicidal activity. Studies have shown that cyprodinil can be converted to salts with organic acids, resulting in lower soil adsorption and reduced environmental impact, particularly in aquatic systems. The compound has been tested in subchronic dietary studies in mice, demonstrating tolerance without adverse effects on body weight, food consumption, or hematological profiles.
