Flubendiamide is the first commercial phthalic acid diamide insecticide, developed by Kabuskiki Kaisha, targeting the insect ryanodine receptor (RyR) with high specificity and mammalian safety. It acts as a conformation-sensitive activator of RyR, disrupting calcium ion regulation in insects, leading to muscle paralysis and death. Flubendiamide is extensively used in pest management due to its excellent insecticidal properties and has been pivotal in controlling various crop pests globally. However, resistance development in pests like the cotton bollworm Helicoverpa armigera poses challenges to its efficacy. Additionally, studies have shown that flubendiamide can provoke oxidative stress and inflammation in human cells, indicating potential health hazards. Its structure includes a phthalic acid diamide core, which is crucial for its function and interaction with RyR.
