PA1-4953 detects the HIV-1 p24 protein in HIV samples.
PA1-4953 has been successfully used in Western blot and ELISA procedures. By Western blot this antibody detects a ~24 kDa protein, a ~55 kDa protein, and a ~41 kDa protein, corresponding respectively to HIV-p24 and to its precursors p55 and p41, in HIV samples.
PA1-4953 immunogen corresponds to the recombinant protein which was over-expressed in E. coli with a plasmid carrying the Gag p24 coding region of the HIV-1 virus.
Recombinant HIV-1 Gag p24 protein (Cat. # RP-4916 or RP-4917) can be purchased for control experiments in Western blot assays.

HIV-1 Gag p24 is a capsid protein that constitutes the core of the AIDS virus HIV-1 and is produced by the digestion of its precursor Gag p55 by HIV-1 protease. The HIV-1 Gag p24 protein is indispensable to the reproduction of AIDS virus, and constitutes an essential element for the AIDS virus particle construction. HIV-1 Gag p24 is detectable from the early stage of AIDS virus infection, and is used as a marker for observation of the development in the patient's condition after treatment, as it indicated the amount of virus in the blood.
