Product cellular localization: Cell junction, Cytoplasmic vesicle, Secretory vesicle, Synapse, Synaptic vesicle membrane, Synaptosome.
Positive control: Colon: A moderate to strong staining of the axons of the Auerbach's and Meissner's plexus should be seen while the endocrine cells of the mucosa and the peripheral nerves in the mucosa must show an at least a weak to moderate staining. Pancreas: A strong staining should be seen in islets of Langerhans and in peripheral nerve fibres located between the exocrine cells.
Tissue specificity: Expressed in the brain, with expression in the hippocampus, the neuropil in the dentate gyrus, where expression is higher in the outer half of the molecular layer than in the inner half, and in the neuropil of CA4 and CA3 (PubMed:8838578). Expressed in the putamen (at protein level) (PubMed:17296554).

Hepatocyte Nuclear Factor 1 (HNF1, Homeoprotein LFB3, Transcription factor 2, TCF2, Variant hepatic nuclear factor) is a member of the homeodomain-containing superfamily of transcription factors. It is a liver-specific factor of the homeobox-containing basic helix-turn-helix family. The protein binds to DNA as either a homodimer, or a heterodimer with the related protein hepatocyte nuclear factor 1-alpha. HNF1has been shown to function in nephron development and regulates development of the embryonic pancreas. Mutations in the gene result in renal cysts and diabetes syndrome and noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, and expression of the gene is altered in some types of cancer. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
