Iprodione is a dicarboximide fungicide primarily used to control fungal diseases such as Botrytis, Sclerotinia, and Monilinia on various crops including fruits and vegetables. Structurally, it is characterized by the presence of a dichlorophenyl group and an imidazolidine ring, specifically 3-(3,5-dichlorophenyl) N-isopropyl-2,4-dioxoimidazolidine-1-carboxamide. Functionally, iprodione acts as both a contact and systemic fungicide, inhibiting fungal growth and conidia germ tube elongation. Recent studies have explored its synergistic effects with berberine, enhancing its antifungal activity. Despite its effectiveness, iprodione poses environmental risks due to its toxicity, leading to interest in its biodegradation by tolerant bacteria. Genomic analyses have identified genes involved in its catabolic pathway, providing insights into its degradation mechanisms.
