Western blot using Rocklands affinity purified anti-MAGP-2 antibody shows detection (arrowhead) of secreted MAGP-2 (lane 2) and MAGP-2 present in a MAGP-2 transfected HEK293 lysate (lane 3). No staining is detected in supernatants from non-transfected cells (lane 1). Store vial at -20° C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20° C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4° C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.
This affinity-purified antibody is directed against human MAGP-2 protein. A BLAST analysis was used to suggest cross reactivity with MAGP-2 protein from human and chimpanzee based on 100% homology with the immunizing sequence. Expect partial reactivity with MAGP-2 from mouse, dog and rat sources based on partial (~75%) sequence homology. Reactivity against homologues from other sources is not known.

This gene encodes a 25-kDa microfibril-associated glycoprotein which is rich in serine and threonine residues. It lacks a hydrophobic carboxyl terminus and proline-, glutamine-, and tyrosine-rich regions, which are characteristics of a related 31- kDa microfibril-associated glycoprotein (MFAP2). The close similarity between these two proteins is confined to a central region of 60 aa where precise alignment of 7 cysteine residues occurs. The structural differences suggest that this encoded protein has some functions that are distinct from those of MFAP2.
