Western blot analysis of MC1R in PC12 whole cell lysates (lane 1), HEPA1-6 whole cell lysates (lane 2), HeLa whole cell lysates (lane 3) and A375 whole cell lysates (lane 4). Samples were incubated with MC1R polyclonal antibody (Product # PA5-95418) using a 0.5 µg/mL dilution. developed was performed using enhanced chemiluminescence (ECL).

MC1R, a Melanocortin Receptor, mediates the effects of melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). MSH and its receptor, MC1R, are key regulators of melanogenesis. They control the relative proportions of red pheomelanin and black photoprotective eumelanin in the skin by increasing the production of eumelanin. Non-functional, truncated forms of the receptor lead to lighter coat color in animals. In contrast, constitutively active receptors lead to darker color.
