Bet v 1 is the principal allergen from birch (Betula verrucosa) pollen and the primary cause of birch pollen allergy. It belongs to the PR-10 (pathogenesis-related protein 10) family and is responsible for IgE-mediated allergic reactions, including seasonal allergic rhinitis and pollen-food syndrome. Bet v 1 comprises multiple closely related isoforms that vary slightly in amino acid sequence and allergenic activity.
