Ofloxacin is a synthetic broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. It belongs to the class of fluoroquinolones and works by inhibiting the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme, which is essential for DNA replication and repair. Ofloxacin is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections. It is also used to treat sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea.
