Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please, remember to spin tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from lyophilized material adhering to the cap or sides of the tubes.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Arabidopsis thaliana, Nicotiana benthamiana
PIP2-7 encodes a plant plasma membrane intrinsic protein (PIP) aquaporin of the major intrinsic protein (MIP) superfamily that is targeted to the plasma membrane (and has been annotated in association with plasmodesmata and vacuolar compartments in automated GO assignments). The encoded protein is a small (~260 aa) hydrophobic channel protein with the conserved MIP domain, predicted to form a homotetramer in the membrane, with each monomer providing a functional pore built from six transmembrane helices connected by five loops; two conserved NPA motifs in opposing half-helices contribute to the canonical hourglass fold and water selectivity typical of PIP aquaporins. Functionally, PIP2-7 acts as a water channel facilitating rapid transmembrane water movement along osmotic gradients, supporting cellular and whole-plant water relations; in tomato, SlPIP2;7 shows water channel activity in Xenopus oocytes, is expressed strongly in roots, is responsive to drought treatment, and its overexpression increases root hydraulic conductivity and improves survival under drought, consistent with a role in maintaining plant water content and osmotic balance.
