Protein Kinase C (PKC) is a multifunctional protein kinase that plays a critical regulatory role in a wide variety of cellular signaling processes. It is an ubiquitous calcium and phospholipid-dependent protein kinase. At least 10 PKC isoforms are reported to exist which are classified as conventional, novel, and a typical isoforms (Ohno and Nishizuka, 2002). PKC is one of the three major protein kinases (including CaM Kinase II and PKA) that mediate cellular responses to second messengers. PKC regulates a number of cellular functions including neurotransmitter synthesis and release, gene expression, ion channel function and synaptic plasticity (Lu et al., 1999; Grosshans et al., 2002; Nishizuka, 1995). The catalytic fragment of PKC (PKC-M) does not require Ca2+ or phosphatidylserine for its activity.
