Western blot of MUNC18 in mouse hippocampal lysate showing specific immunolabeling of a band at ~65 kDa corresponding to Phospho-MUNC18 (Ser241) polyclonal antibody (Product # PA5-35398) in the first lane (-). Phosphospecificity is shown in the second lane (+) where immunolabeling is completely eliminated by blot treatment with lambda phosphatase (1,200 units for 30 min).

This gene encodes a syntaxin-binding protein. The encoded protein appears to play a role in release of neurotransmitters via regulation of syntaxin, a transmembrane attachment protein receptor. Mutations in this gene have been associated with infantile epileptic encephalopathy-4. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
