RBM41, known as RNA Binding Motif Protein 41, is identified as a novel component of the minor spliceosome, particularly interacting with its paralog, U11/U12-65K. Both RBM41 and U11/U12-65K share similar C-terminal RNA recognition motifs (RRMs), which are crucial for their role in spliceosomal activity. Distinctly, RBM41 has been associated with spliceosomal functions, although its precise cellular functions remain largely unexplored. Understanding the structural and functional parallels between RBM41 and U11/U12-65K aids in elucidating the mechanisms underlying minor spliceosome activity. The minor spliceosome itself is involved in the splicing of U12-type introns, thus playing a significant role in the regulation of gene expression. Additionally, RBM41's functional characterization in protein complexes and its involvement with RNA-binding activities enrich our understanding of gene regulation and cellular processes where the spliceosome plays a pivotal role. Research on RBM41 contributes to broader insights into RNA splicing and molecular genetics.
