The M glycoprotein is the most abundant envelope protein of SARS-CoV-2. In silico analyses of the M protein of SARS-CoV-2 using Protter demonstrated that it has a triple-helix bundle, and forms a single 3-transmembrane domain. It has been reported that SARS-CoV-2 membrane glycoprotein M may function as a negative regulator of the innate immune response. It is suggested that the M protein interacted with the central adaptor protein MAVS in the innate immune response pathways.
