The SH3YL1 gene encodes a protein that contains an SH3 domain and is involved in various signaling pathways. It is particularly significant in the context of androgen receptor (AR) signaling, where it acts as a coregulator for AR target genes. Studies have shown that SH3YL1 is essential for the transcriptional activation of genes modulated by the AR, and its dysregulation is associated with aggressive prostate cancer. Additionally, elevated plasma levels of SH3YL1 have been identified as a biomarker for diabetic nephropathy, indicating its broader role in human health and disease. SH3YL1 protein expression is particularly noted in the kidneys of diabetic patients, suggesting its involvement in the development of diabetic complications.
