Immunofluorescent staining of HeLa cells using Product # PA5-19675, anti-UBC6e antibody. The cells were fixed with PFA (4%) for 10 minutes, permabilised with BSA (1%), normal goat serum (10%) and glycine (0.3 M) in 0.1% T-BST for 20 minutes and exposed to the primary antibody at a concentration of 5 µg/mL for 1 hour at room temp. The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an important cellular mechanism for targeting abnormal or short-lived proteins for degradation. Ubiquitination involves at least three classes of enzymes: ubiquitin-activating enzymes, or E1s, ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes, or E2s, and ubiquitin-protein ligases, or E3s. This gene encodes a member of the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family. This enzyme is located in the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum and may contribute to quality control ER-associated degradation by the ubiquitin-proteasome system.
