The Human CTXI (Cross Linked C-telopeptide of Type I Collagen) ELISA quantitates CTXI in serum, plasma, and other biological fluids.
C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen (CTX) is a structural component of type I collagen, the most abundant collagen type in the extracellular matrix of connective tissues. The CTX region is located at the carboxy-terminal end of the collagen molecule and is crucial for collagen cross-linking, which contributes to the stability and integrity of the collagen fibrils. It serves as a marker for bone resorption; during bone degradation, CTX is released into the bloodstream, making it a useful biomarker for assessing bone health and diseases such as osteoporosis. CTX mediates signal transmission in tissue homeostasis and stabilizes the triple-helical structure of collagen through cross-links formed at the telopeptide region.
