The Human FABP1 (Fatty Acid Binding Protein 1, Liver) ELISA quantitates FABP1 in serum and plasma.
Principle of the method
The Human Fatty Acid Binding Protein 1, Liver (FABP1) solid-phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) is designed to measure the concentration of Fatty Acid Binding Protein 1, Liver (FABP1) in biological samples. A target-specific antibody has been pre-coated in the wells of the supplied microplate. Samples, standards, or controls are added into these wells and bind to the immobilized (capture) antibody.
The sandwich complex is formed by the addition of a second (HRP-linked) detection antibody specific to Fatty Acid Binding Protein 1, Liver (FABP1). Excess reagents are washed from the plate.
A substrate solution is added that reacts with the enzyme-antibody-target complex to produce a measurable signal. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of stop solution. The intensity of the signal, measured spectrophotometrically at 450 ± 2 nm, is directly proportional to the concentration of Fatty Acid Binding Protein 1, Liver (FABP1) present in the original specimen.
Rigorous validation:
Each manufactured lot of this ELISA kit is quality tested for criteria such as sensitivity, specificity, precision, and lot-to-lot consistency. See manual for more information on validation.

FABP1 encodes the fatty acid binding protein found in liver. Fatty acid binding proteins are a family of small, highly conserved, cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. FABP1 and FABP6 (the ileal fatty acid binding protein) are also able to bind bile acids. It is thought that FABPs roles include fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism.
