The Human IgA (Immunoglobulin A) ELISA quantitates IgA in serum, plasma, saliva and urine.
Principle of the method
The Human Immunoglobulin A (IgA) solid-phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) is designed to measure the concentration of Immunoglobulin A (IgA) in biological samples. A target-specific antibody has been pre-coated in the wells of the supplied microplate. Samples, standards, or controls are added into these wells and bind to the immobilized (capture) antibody.
The sandwich complex is formed by the addition of a second (HRP-linked) detection antibody specific to Immunoglobulin A (IgA). Excess reagents are washed from the plate.
A substrate solution is added that reacts with the enzyme-antibody-target complex to produce a measurable signal. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of stop solution. The intensity of the signal, measured spectrophotometrically at 450 ± 2 nm, is directly proportional to the concentration of Immunoglobulin A (IgA) present in the original specimen.
Rigorous validation:
Each manufactured lot of this ELISA kit is quality tested for criteria such as sensitivity, specificity, precision, and lot-to-lot consistency. See manual for more information on validation.

Human IgA, also known as human immunoglobulin A, is an antibody that is produced by the immune system in response to antigens. It is the most abundant immunoglobulin in mucosal secretions, such as saliva, tears, and breast milk, and plays a key role in defense against pathogens at mucosal surfaces. IgA works by binding to specific antigens and preventing them from entering the body's tissues. It can also activate complement and promote phagocytosis by immune cells. Human IgA can be used in research to study the immune response to pathogens and to develop diagnostic tests and therapeutic interventions for infectious diseases.
