About This Kit
The Mouse IL-18 (Interleukin 18) ELISA quantitates IL-18 in serum and plasma.
Principle of the method
The Mouse Interleukin 18 (IL-18) solid-phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) is designed to measure the concentration of Interleukin 18 (IL-18) in biological samples. A target-specific antibody has been pre-coated in the wells of the supplied microplate. Samples, standards, or controls are added into these wells and bind to the immobilized (capture) antibody.
The sandwich complex is formed by the addition of a second (HRP-linked) detection antibody specific to Interleukin 18 (IL-18). Excess reagents are washed from the plate.
A substrate solution is added that reacts with the enzyme-antibody-target complex to produce a measurable signal. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of stop solution. The intensity of the signal, measured spectrophotometrically at 450 ± 2 nm, is directly proportional to the concentration of Interleukin 18 (IL-18) present in the original specimen.

Target information
The protein encoded by this gene is a proinflammatory cytokine. This cytokine can induce the IFN-gamma production of T cells. The combination of this cytokine and IL12 has been shown to inhibit IL4 dependent IgE and IgG1 production, and enhance IgG2a production of B cells. IL-18 binding protein can specifically interact with this cytokine, and thus negatively regulate its biological activity.
