What instructions should I use for the Iron, Quant Test Strips?

We recommend the following instructions for the Iron, Quant Test Strips:

1. Take one strip from the container and immediately close the container.
2. Immerse the test strip in the sample solution for 1 second so that the reaction zone is thoroughly moistened.
3. Remove the test strip, gently shake off any excess liquid.
4. Wait 10 seconds and compare the reaction zone on the strip with the color scale.

Note: The sample solution should have a pH between 1 and 7. Strongly acidic solutions (pH less than 1) must be buffered with sodium acetate; solutions above pH 7 must be buffered with sulfuric acid.

What is the principle of the method for how the Iron, Quant Test Strips work?

Iron (II) combines with 2,2'-bipyridine to form a dark red complex. The special advantage of this test is that it contains a buffer which makes complex formation in the paper independent of the pH if the sample solution pH is 1 - 7. Although the test strip only detects iron (II), any iron (III) present in solution can be easily reduced to iron (II) with ascorbic acid. Following reduction, the test strip shows the total quantity of iron(II) and iron(III) present.

How many test strips are provided in one kit of the Iron, Quant Test Strips?

Each kit of Iron, Quant Test Strips come with 100 test strips.
