What is the efficiency of the Inhibitor Removal Resin?

The efficiency of inhibitor removal depends on the concentration of inhibitor and the rate of monomer feed. Efficiency is greatest for higher concentrations of inhibitor. Levels of inhibitor below 1 ppm can be easily obtained using the Inhibitor Removal Resin.

Note: Hydroquinone (HQ) is more easily removed than methyl ether of hydroquinone (MEHQ).

Can I regenerate the Inhibitor Removal Resin?

The Inhibitor Removal Resin may be regenerated by passing 2.5 bed volumes of methanol upward through the resin in 1 hour to remove the inhibitor. Regeneration by backflow through the column is more efficient than downflow. For use with aqueous monomers, the resin should be back washed with 2 bed volumes of water following the methanol treatment. For water soluble monomers, such as glycol methacrylate, there is no need to condition the ion-exchange resin beyond the methanol treatment. The resin may be regenerated repeatedly over a period of years without loss of efficiency.

What instructions should I follow to use the Inhibitor Removal Resin?

The Inhibitor Removal Resin is for use with non-aqueous monomers. We recommend the following for its use:

  1. Wash the resin with dilute sodium chloride (NaCl) to remove any free amine form. This is done by passing 4 column volumes of dilute NaCl (approximately 4% by weight) through the wet resin.
  2. Rinse the column with distilled or deionized water.
  3. Remove the water by passing methanol through the column equal to 2.5 times the resin volume.
  4. Allow the methanol to flow through the resin column in 1 hour.
  5. If you are going to use other solvents, pass them through the column following the methanol rinse. Use 2.5 times the resin volume and allow to flow through for 1 hour.
