Metalloproteases bind metal ions in their active sites. EDTA is a metalloprotease inhibitor that acts by chelating metal ions that are required by these proteases for activity. We recommend using the protease or phosphatase inhibitor tablet or mini tablet containing EDTA if any metalloprotease is likely to adversely affect the functioning of the target protein. However, it is important to avoid using EDTA when the downstream application involves metal chelation affinity purification or if the target protein requires metals ions for proper function.

Each mini tablet is sufficient for 10 mL of solution and is suitable for reagent preparation prior to protein extraction for cultured cells and tissues.
