Ion AmpliSeq On-Demand panels bring practical pack sizes and an optimized gene catalog to custom next-generation sequencing (NGS) panels, so you can iterate panel design for human disease research with efficiency and convenience.
Additions to our portfolio give you more selection and pack sizes, allowing you to build custom panels with pre-designed and pre-tested amplicons targeting over 5,000 human genes that are relevant in the research of inherited diseases including hereditary cancer, primary immunodeficiency, hearing loss, muscular dystrophy and many more. Order the pack size you need by selecting from 8-, 24-, 32- and 96-reaction sizes for the Ion GeneStudio S5 systems, or 16- or 24-reaction sizes for the Ion Torrent Genexus System.
Ion AmpliSeq panels consist of a pool of oligonucleotide primer pairs, each pair designed to amplify a specified genomic region. Each panel can be designed to interrogate all bases across a gene.
Enter your gene(s) of interest in the gene search tool or on ampliseq.com to see if they are in the Ion AmpliSeq On-Demand catalog.
Our catalog of optimized genes continues to expand to include more areas of disease research, so be sure to come back and check if you don’t see your genes in the catalog now.
Please note that currently the On-Demand catalog includes genes for germline analysis only. If you don't see your gene of interest, you can still order an On-Demand panel and we can spike-in additional genes.
Watch the short video above to learn how to create a spike-in panel.
Ion AmpliSeq On-Demand panels are available in multiple pack sizes and numbers of genes targeted per panel to fit a variety of experimental needs. Whether you’re running Ion Chef System for NGS library prep automation, or manual library and template preparation on the Ion GeneStudio S5 systems, or running automated NGS, library prep, templating, sequencing, and analysis on the Ion Torrent Genexus System.
Smaller pack sizes help keep up-front costs down so you can more efficiently design, run, and re-design panels. Simply select your preferred library preparation workflow during checkout after you have designed a panel.

Ion AmpliSeq On-Demand panel customer Dr. Manop Pithukpakorn discusses why his lab chose these pre-designed and pre-tested custom panels on the Ion Torrent Genexus System and the Ion GeneStudio S5 system for their NGS testing needs in this video interview.
Start with your disease research area of interest in Ion AmpliSeq Designer and easily configure your own panel. Genes are organized by their degree of disease association as informed by public databases such as the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) database—so you spend less time on panel development and more time on enabling results.
View wet-lab data on gene uniformity during the design stage to be assured of the quality of the expected data, even before running your first experiment.
Ion AmpliSeq On-Demand panels cover broad research areas for germline analysis, including:
Ion AmpliSeq On-Demand Panels are pre-designed targeted sequencing panels that let researchers quickly create custom assays by selecting from a catalog of more than 5,000 pretested human genes. They are optimized for germline research applications and offer a faster, more cost-effective alternative to designing a panel from scratch.
Yes. Although On-Demand Panels are built from a curated catalog of pretested genes, they offer considerable flexibility.
You can:
Ion AmpliSeq On-Demand Panels are designed primarily for human germline targeted sequencing and support a wide range of inherited disease research applications.
Common disease areas include:
Researchers can browse genes by disease category within the Ion AmpliSeq Designer platform to quickly build application-specific panels.
Ion AmpliSeq On-Demand Panels are available for both automated and manual library preparation workflows.
Ion Chef workflow
Manual workflow
These options make it easy to choose a panel size that matches your project, whether you're conducting a small pilot study or processing larger sample sets.
Designing an On-Demand Panel is straightforward using the Ion AmpliSeq Designer online tool.
The typical workflow is:
The software also provides design reports, coverage information, and downloadable files to help researchers evaluate and document their panel before purchasing.
