How can I set up auto-analysis for data in GeneMapper with the 3500 Data Collection Software version 3.x?

Beginning with 3500 Data Collection Software version 3, the 3500 Data Collection Software does not support automatic secondary analysis. This is also indicated in the software release notes. To perform secondary data analysis, you will need to manually import the .fsa file into the GeneMapper software. For optimal performance, we recommend that you install the GeneMapper Software on a stand-alone computer that is not part of the 3500 Genetic Analyzer system.

Can the GM4 license (GeneMapper Software v4.0, client installation, Cat. No. 4440914) be used to register for GM5 (GeneMapper Software 5, client installation, Cat. No. A38892) or GM6 (GeneMapper Software 6, client installation, Cat. No. 4475074) copies?

No. You must get a GM5/GM6 license separately.

Which instruments does GeneMapper Software 6 support?

GeneMapper Software 6 fully supports data generated from the following instruments running all versions of Data Collection Software:

- Applied Biosystems SeqStudio Genetic Analyzer
- Applied Biosystems 3500 Genetic Analyzer
- Applied Biosystems 3500xL Genetic Analyzer
- Applied Biosystems 3130 Genetic Analyzer
- Applied Biosystems 3130xl Genetic Analyzer
- Applied Biosystems 3730 DNA Analyzer
- Applied Biosystems 3730xl DNA Analyzer
- Applied Biosystems 310 Genetic Analyzer

What has been updated in GeneMapper Software 6?

The primary updates in GeneMapper Software 6 are the following:
- GeneMapper Software 6 supports installation on Microsoft Windows 7 Professional and Microsoft Windows 10 Professional (64-bit) operating systems.
- GeneMapper Software 6 allows only administrative users to use Delete All Audit Records option. For non-admin users, this option is disabled.
- GeneMapper Software 6 has an enhanced Sample Information View to show consumables information.

We just upgraded to GeneMapper Software v6, and I'm wondering if my old data files will work on it.

GeneMapper Software v6 is compatible with the following files:

-3130 series, Data Collection Software v3.0, 3.1, 4
-3730 series, Data Collection Software v3.x, 4.x
-3500 series, Data Collection Software v1.x, 2, 3.x
-SeqStudio Data Collection Software v1.x

We are upgrading to the Windows 10 operating system. What version of GeneMapper Software is compatible with that?

GeneMapper Software v6 has been extensively tested on Windows 10 Pro and IoT 64-bit version and also Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit and 32-bit version).

If installing on the instrument computer, the update will require a new computer and upgrading of the Data Collection Software as well.

We are upgrading to the Windows 10 operating system. Can I install GeneMapper Software v5 on that?

GeneMapper Software v5 is not Windows 10 compatible. GeneMapper Software v6 is compatible with Windows 10 and also Windows 7.

What information should I back up when using GeneMapper Software?

It is useful to back up data in order to protect yourself from data loss, clearing out the Oracle database to keep it from filling up, and/or for sending data to Technical Support for troubleshooting.

In GeneMapper Software, there are 3 locations where you will need to back up data:

1. Panel Manager - contains information on your Panels, Markers, and Bins.
2. GeneMapper Manager - contains information pertaining to the Project itself - Projects, Analysis Methods, Size Standard Definitions, Table Settings, Plot Settings, Matrices (ABI PRISM 310 Genetic Analyzer Only), Cluster Plot Settings, SNP Sets, and Report Settings.
3. Data Files - sample data (.fsa files) that were used in the Project.

Note: Older versions of GeneMapper Software contained an Archive function that would back up the entire database at once. However, the archive could only be reimported into the same instance of GeneMapper Software. If you had a problem that required reinstallation of GeneMapper Software, it would be considered a new instance of the software and the Archive could not be imported into it.

I tried to launch GeneMapper Software and am getting a "Cannot connect to the Database" error message. The software is installed in a Client/Server configuration (Client and Server are on different computers). What should I do?

My Oracle database became corrupted and I have to reinstall the GeneMapper Software. However, when I try to uninstall using Add/Remove programs, it won't work. How do I manually uninstall GeneMapper Software?

Before uninstalling, make sure you have your GeneMapper CD/DVD and your registration code for reinstallation. Follow the uninstall instructions for your version of GeneMapper Software. Before attempting to reinstall, verify that you are logged in locally as the Administrator, that your antivirus Software is either off or that you have suspended activity during installation, and that your TCP/IP is installed.
