What is the function of p38MAPK?

p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) phosphorylates target proteins at serine and threonine residues in response to stress stimuli such as UV, heat shock, and osmotic shock which often leads to apoptosis. Activated p38MAPK can phosphorylate transcription factors including ATF2, Mac, and MEF2.
