Abstract
A light-dependent increase in free Ca2+ concentration in the salamander rod outer segment.

PubMed ID:11306652
'1. The Ca(2+) indicator dye fluo-5F was excited by an argon ion laser to measure changes in free Ca(2+) concentration ([Ca2+]i) in the outer segments of isolated salamander rods rapidly exposed to a 0 Ca(2+), 0 Na(+) solution designed to minimise surface membrane Ca(2+) fluxes. Over 30-60 s of laser ... More
Molecular and functional characterization of inositol trisphosphate receptors during early zebrafish development.

'Fluctuations in cytosolic Ca(2+) are crucial for a variety of cellular processes including many aspects of development. Mobilization of intracellular Ca(2+) stores via the production of inositol trisphosphate (IP(3)) and the consequent activation of IP(3)-sensitive Ca(2+) channels is a ubiquitous means by which diverse stimuli mediate their cellular effects. Dopaminergic regulation of dendritic calcium: fast multisite calcium imaging.

'Optimal dopamine tone is required for the normal cortical function; however it is still unclear how cortical-dopamine-release affects information processing in individual cortical neurons. Thousands of glutamatergic inputs impinge onto elaborate dendritic trees of neocortical pyramidal neurons. In the process of ensuing synaptic integration (information processing), a variety of calcium ... More
Nonlinear regulation of unitary synaptic signals by CaV(2.3) voltage-sensitive calcium channels located in dendritic spines.

Journal:Neuron
PubMed ID:17224406
'The roles of voltage-sensitive sodium (Na) and calcium (Ca) channels located on dendrites and spines in regulating synaptic signals are largely unknown. Here we use 2-photon glutamate uncaging to stimulate individual spines while monitoring uncaging-evoked excitatory postsynaptic potentials (uEPSPs) and Ca transients. We find that, in CA1 pyramidal neurons in ... More
Axon initial segment Ca2+ channels influence action potential generation and timing.
Authors:Bender KJ, Trussell LO,
Journal:Neuron
PubMed ID:19186168
'Although action potentials are typically generated in the axon initial segment (AIS), the timing and pattern of action potentials are thought to depend on inward current originating in somatodendritic compartments. Using two-photon imaging, we show that T- and R-type voltage-gated Ca(2+) channels are colocalized with Na(+) channels in the AIS ... More
