The Invitrogen iGlow UV Safety Guard is a protective screen designed for use with the iGlow Gel Documentation System during gel excision procedures. This accessory helps protect users from harmful UV radiation while maintaining sample access during illumination. Integrated sensors in the iGlow imager automatically detect the safety guard, ensuring UV and blue light illumination is only permitted with the drawer open when the protective screen is properly installed. The user-friendly design enables quick installation and compact fold-up storage in the iGlow Sample tray holder (IGA014). This sensor-based safety mechanism facilitates both operational convenience and enhanced user safety during gel excision.
Features:
UV Safety Guard System
Enhanced Safety via Automated Light Control
The UV safety guard uses a hinged two-component design that helps protect lab workers during gel excision workflows. Large tabs positioned on the bottom portion of the screen slide down snugly into precision-engineered tracks built into the panel of the sample drawer, allowing easy installation while maintaining a secure fit. Once the bottom tabs are properly seated, the top portion of the guard folds over onto the touchscreen, creating a barrier between the user and the transilluminator which filters the light before it reaches the operator. The sides are left open for sample access, requiring proper PPE be worn for safe excision. The system employs integrated sensors that recognize whether the tabs are properly installed, and the gel documentation system will only illuminate the sample when this critical safety precaution is confirmed to be in place. Furthermore, the safety system includes an automatic shutdown feature that immediately disables LED illumination if the screen is removed during operation, adding an additional layer of protection against accidental exposure.
Advanced Light Filtering Technology
The plastic UV safety guard utilizes specially formulated materials designed for compatibility with both UV and Blue LED illumination systems. The guard's filtering technology blocks harmful UV radiation while simultaneously filtering blue light to enable clear visualization of sample bands during excision procedures. This dual-functionality design allows researchers to maintain visual and physical access to their samples while enabling protection from potentially harmful UV radiation. This critical accessory enables safe gel excision on the imaging system, avoiding unnecessary sample transfer and reducing the risk of contamination or sample loss.
Space-Efficient Storage
The safety guard's ergonomic, fold-up design enables convenient storage within the iGlow tray holder, saving laboratory bench space when the guard is not in use. Storing the safety guard in the tray holder enables the safety equipment to remain accessible while maintaining an organized workspace, supporting the transition between imaging and excision procedures that is important for high-throughput gel documentation workflows.
