Pyridaben is a pyridazinone insecticide and acaricide, primarily used to control thrips, mites, aphids, and leafhoppers. It functions by inhibiting mitochondrial electron transport, leading to increased reactive oxygen species production, mitochondrial dysfunction, and apoptosis. Pyridaben has been studied for its effects on cell growth, inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis through calcium imbalance and endoplasmic reticulum stress. Additionally, pyridaben has been identified as a novel fungicide against Sphaerotheca fuliginea, effectively inhibiting spore germination. Photocatalytic degradation studies have shown that pyridaben undergoes degradation in aqueous solutions, with kinetics influenced by pH and the presence of humic acids. The compound's photolysis follows pseudo first-order kinetics, with varying degradation rates depending on environmental conditions.
