Gamithromycin is a second-generation macrolide antibiotic primarily used in veterinary medicine, particularly for cattle. It belongs to the class of organic compounds known as aminoglycosides, characterized by amino-modified sugars. Gamithromycin functions by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby exerting its antimicrobial effects. It is effective against various bacterial strains, including Pasteurella multocida and Mycoplasma mycoides, and is often used in combination with other antibiotics like colistin to enhance its efficacy. The gene location and structure of gamithromycin are not directly applicable as it is a synthetic compound, but its pharmacodynamics and residue determination in animal products are well-studied, ensuring its safe use in food-producing animals.
