Florylpicoxamid is a novel picolinamide fungicide developed as a mimic of macrocyclic natural products, specifically designed to control a broad spectrum of fungal diseases with a focus on cereal diseases such as wheat leaf blotch caused by Zymoseptoria tritici. This compound is characterized by a non-macrocyclic structure, bearing two fewer stereocenters than its predecessor fenpicoxamid, which enhances its efficacy and allows for a more scalable and environmentally friendly synthesis. Florylpicoxamid functions by inhibiting the Qi site of cytochrome bc1, providing superior curative and preventative treatment compared to other fungicides like epoxiconazole and fluxapyroxad. Its development aligns with green chemistry principles, making it a significant advancement in agricultural disease management.
