Cephalexin, also known as Cefalexin, is a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic widely prescribed for treating infections caused by gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. It functions by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. Cephalexin is primarily used for urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, otitis media, bone infections, and skin and soft tissue infections. The gene information related to cephalexin biodegradation indicates involvement in environmental information processing, with numerous genes participating in membrane transport and signal transduction, suggesting adaptability and responsiveness to environmental changes.
