Tramp metal detector approvals should include cCSAus, CE, and RCM.
Oretronic Tramp Metal Detectors (https://www.thermofisher.com/order/catalog/product/ORETRONICIV4) can be used on conveyors with a belt speed of 1.5 m/min to 550 m/min (5 ft/min to 1800 ft/min).
Tramp metal detectors should feature variable frequency to eliminate interference from other electrical equipment, and password protection for security.
Most tramp metal detectors are designed for belt conveyors moving coal, iron pellets, minerals, cement, aggregates, and other bulk materials. In the case of Oretronic Tramp Metal Detectors (https://www.thermofisher.com/order/catalog/product/ORETRONICIV4), the system coils are made of impact-resistant polyvinyl chloride and designed to withstand stresses of up to ten times the force of gravity. The transmitter coil and dual-wound receiver coils mount on a support made of non-conductive materials. The transmitter coil is swing-mounted to protect the coil and support from being struck from oversized materials. A dual receiver coil is utilized to counteract interference from external sources, such as electric motors, lightning, and radio transmitters.
The control unit enclosure for the Oretronic IV-4 is made with reinforced fiberglass that conforms to NEMA-4X, IP66 dust, and water tight 432 mm (17 in) x 360 mm (14.2 in) x 184 mm (7.2 in). The Oretronic IV-6 control has painted mild steel that conforms to NEMA-4, IP66 dust, and water tight 687 mm (27 in) x 524 mm (20.6 in) x 230 mm (9.1 in).
Yes. Many tramp metal detectors, including the Oretronic Tramp Metal Detector (https://www.thermofisher.com/order/catalog/product/ORETRONICIV4), can detect tramp metal when buried in wet conductive materials.
Tramp metal detectors protect expensive crushers, conveyors, and other process equipment from damage by tramp metal. The Thermo Scientific Ramsey Oretronic Tramp Metal Detector (https://www.thermofisher.com/order/catalog/product/ORETRONICIV4), for example, is designed for belt conveyors moving coal, iron pellets, minerals, aggregates, and other bulk materials, and can detect all types of metallic scrap that conventional metal detectors may miss, including bucket teeth, manganese steel mantles, bore crowns, bar scrap, chains, and tools.
Tramp metal can damage expensive crushers, conveyors, and other process equipment. As a result, tramp metal can stop operations and cause lost production time.
Tramp metal is metallic scrap that may accidentally find its way onto conveyors and into bulk materials. Some examples of tramp metal include bucket teeth, manganese steel mantles, bore crowns, bar scrap, chains, and tools.
We do not recommend mounting the Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detector (TMD) controls in an area where they will be exposed to high heat or direct sunlight as this may result in darkening of the display with limited visibility or display failure. To avoid exposure to direct sunlight, a sun shield should be installed.
Please refer to the user manual (https://assets.thermofisher.com/TFS-Assets/CAD/manuals/tramp-metal-detector-oretronic-iv-s-manual-REC4479B) for all wiring information.
The Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detector (TMD) control user manual is available in English, Spanish (Latin Am), German, Chinese (Mandarin/Simplified), Italian, and French languages. Please contact the factory at sales.bulk.us@thermofisher.com for other languages.
The Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detector (TMD) control software is available in English, Spanish (Latin Am), German, Chinese (Mandarin/Simplified), Italian, and French languages. Please contact the factory at sales.bulk.us@thermofisher.com for other languages.
At release, the Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detector (TMD) controls have CE, cCSAus, and RCM approvals. If there are other approvals that are required, please contact the factory at sales.bulk.us@thermofisher.com.
No, if tramp is detected, the user needs to check the belt and remove tramp prior to restarting the system.
Yes, with factory and field testing, we have proven that the Oretronic IV TMD system is less affected by metal near the system and electrical interference by magnets, motors, and other equipment in the area, minimizing the occurrence of false trips.
No. Only one receiver coil can be connected to the Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detector (TMD) controls.
The Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detector (TMD) controls offer improved sensitivity, fewer false trips, better user interface, and multi-language software, compared to the Oretronic III TMD control.
There are no special tools required to install an Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detector (TMD) system.
The user interface and calibration menus have changed but the concept of operation and function of fine and coarse sensitivity remains the same.
At this time, we do not offer a stainless steel enclosure option for the Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detector (TMD) control except in Australia. Please contact the factory at sales.bulk.us@thermofisher.com if you have an application which requires a stainless steel enclosure.
The complete system is not designed for applications in hazardous areas. We can provide coils and some accessories suitable for Class II, Division 1 and 2 areas, but the Oretronic IV TMD control must be located outside of the hazardous area. A hazardous area rated junction box can be used to increase the distance at which the control can be mounted from the coils.
Detectable tramp size depends on several variables including material, burden depth, belt width, belt speed, and coil gap. Please see the sensitivity statement or contact our facility at sales.bulk.us@thermofisher.com to help determine detectable tramp size based on a specific application.
No, the mounting footprint for the Oretronic IV TMD control versions is not the same as the Oretronic III TMD control. Please refer to the user manual (https://assets.thermofisher.com/TFS-Assets/CAD/manuals/tramp-metal-detector-oretronic-iv-s-manual-REC4479B.pdf) for dimensions and mounting requirements.
The Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detector, 6A Control offers higher power and therefore higher sensitivity to tramp metal detection compared to the Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detector, 4A Control.
The Oretronic IV TMD system can be equipped with alarm horn, clip detector, flag drop marker, rotating beacon, high pile detector, RS-485 communication card, and 115 VAC or 230 VAC heater (only for use with metal enclosure, for very cold environments).
The Oretronic IV TMD control is a direct replacement for the Oretronic III TMD control and will work with existing Thermo Scientific transmitter, receiver, and under belt coils.
The transmitter coil comes with 15 feet of cable and the receiver coil comes with 10 feet of cable. An optional junction box is available to increase the distance by 50 feet.
