Antibody detects endogenous levels of fragment of activated IL-1 beta resulting from cleavage adjacent to Asp116.
IL-1 beta (Cleaved Asp116) refers to the mature, biologically active form of interleukin-1 beta generated after proteolytic processing of its inactive precursor, pro-IL-1 beta. IL-1 beta is encoded by the IL1B gene and is synthesized as a 31 kDa cytosolic precursor in response to inflammatory stimuli such as infection or tissue injury. Activation of inflammasome complexes leads to caspase-1-mediated cleavage at aspartic acid residue 116, producing the approximately 17 kDa mature cytokine. The cleaved form is released through non-classical secretion pathways and binds to the interleukin-1 receptor type 1 (IL-1R1), triggering downstream signaling through NF-kappa B and MAP kinase pathways. Mature IL-1 beta is a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine that promotes fever, leukocyte recruitment, and amplification of innate and adaptive immune responses. Detection of IL-1 beta cleaved at Asp116 is widely used as a marker of inflammasome activation and inflammatory signaling in immunology and disease research.
