The FAM83B gene, also known as Family With Sequence Similarity 83 Member B, is located on chromosome 6q22.1. This gene encodes a protein that functions as an oncogene and plays a crucial role in the development and progression of various human cancers including breast, prostate, and endometrial cancers. FAM83B exerts its oncogenic effects primarily through the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway, promoting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion while inhibiting apoptosis. Additionally, FAM83B has been found to regulate mitochondrial metabolism and maintain cellular energy homeostasis. Knockdown studies of FAM83B in cancer cell lines have demonstrated significant reductions in tumor growth and metastatic potential, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target. The gene includes multiple exons and undergoes alternative splicing, contributing to its functional diversity.
