Laked Horse Blood is an enrichment supplement that may be used in the preparation of culture media to isolate and differentiate clinical pathogens such as Corynebacterium species, Staphylococcus species, and Campylobacter species from clinical samples such as respiratory secretion, cerebrospinal fluids, sputum, and faecal samples.
Laked Horse Blood Supplement is a nutrient-rich enrichment supplement used to enhance the cultivation and isolation of fastidious Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms. The laking process releases essential growth factors, including hemin (X factor), NAD, and other intracellular nutrients, making it ideal for enriching basal media used in clinical, diagnostic, and research microbiology laboratories.
The supplement supports the growth of clinically important pathogens such as Corynebacterium spp. (including C. diphtheriae, C. ulcerans, and C. pseudotuberculosis), Haemophilus influenzae, Campylobacter spp., and Staphylococcus aureus.
By providing the nutrients required for demanding organisms, it improves the recovery and isolation of fastidious bacteria from clinical specimens and supports applications including pathogen identification, epidemiological surveillance, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and microbiological research.
Laked horse blood is hemolyzed blood used in culture media, created by freezing and thawing red blood cells to break them open. Laked Horse Blood is a very dark colored liquid. The lytic agent used for lysed horse blood is white saponin that does not affect the growth of bacteria at the level required for lysis, the blood lysis by the addition of Saponin around 6.5% of final concentration.
Typical Formula is Horse Blood (100 mL) and Saponin
